Job Summary:

The Costume Manager is the head of the costume department and will handle the administrative aspects including scheduling, budgeting, production planning, and staff and student supervision. This position will oversee design, construction, and maintenance of costumes for all theatrical productions. Maintain the costume shop, equipment, and storage area for the Costume Shop. Supervise student technical workers, production students, and CSER students. Supervise Costume Shop Supervisor and Wardrobe Supervisor. Alternate show supervision responsibilities with other staff members. Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion.

Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of costumes for theatrical productions.
Design costumes for production season when assigned.
Supervise other costume designers.
Responsible for schedules, budgets, and operation of the costume department.
Create production schedules for the costume department.
Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks.
Collaborate as a member of the creative and production teams.
Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.
Supervise staff: Costume Shop Supervisor and Wardrobe Supervisor. Assist in oversight of student workers, production students, and CSER students.

Job Requirements:
BFA/MFA in Costume Design, Fashion Design, or related degrees. At least five years of experience in costume/clothing design.
Knowledge of theatrical production processes, from design phase to strike.
Knowledge of costume fabrication and the history of clothing.
Experience with industrial sewing machines and hand stitching.
Advanced clothing construction skills.
Experience with wigs, hair, and makeup.
Experience as a team leader.
Strong organizational and documentation skills.
