The 7th IACE annual conference went as scheduled despite massive Winter Storm Fern that dumped snow and ice on 35 U.S. states. The path of the storm stretched from west Texas to New England, and resulted in road closures and thousands of airline delays.
Inclement weather prevented Nathan Finn from presenting his paper titled “Carl F. H. Henry, Biblical Inerrancy, and Evangelical Identity” at the pre-conference session devoted to examining the state of evangelicalism in the past 50 years. IACE president David S. Dockery read Finn’s paper to those in attendance at the Riley Conference Center on the campus of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Southwestern Seminary professor Malcolm Yarnell III presented “Evangelicalism: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” at the pre-conference.
Houston Christian University president Robert B. Sloan examined evangelicalism in light of Christian higher education.
Gregg R. Allison, professor of Christian theology at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, presented “The Bible and Evangelicalism” during the pre-conference sessions that examined the state of evangelicalism in the half-century since Newsweek’s cover story proclaiming 1976 “the year of the Evangelical.”
Perry Glanzer, professor of educational foundations at Baylor University, led off plenary presentations for the conference, presenting “Faithfulness in Christian Higher Education.”
IACE attendees joined Southwestern Seminary students, faculty, and staff in MacGorman Chapel.
Josh Moody, pastor of College Church in Wheaton, Illinois, presented a preview of his upcoming book “Unframed.”
Tom Cornman of The Timothy Group led a workshop discussion titled “I’m Ready for Leadership: Navigating the Transition to Greater Responsibility.”
Western Theological Seminary president Felix Theonugraha led a prayer and scripture reading at the start of the conference.
Joe Crider of Southwestern Seminary led a time of scripture reading and singing to start the conference.
Leah Zuidema of Dordt University led the attendees in the recitation of the Nicene Creed at the start of the conference.
Carl Bradford of Southwestern Seminary began Thursday’s sessions with a devotional presentation.
Jennifer Marshall Patterson, director of the Institute for Theology in Public Life at Reformed Theological Seminary, presented “Thinking Theologically about Religious Freedom: A Case Study for Christian Education.”
The 7th annual meeting broke a record for registrations with 190. Weather prevented some from attending in person, but IACE accommodated 28 registrants who participated via internet connections.
A panel discussion focused on “Faithfulness in K-12 Christian Education” featured examination of issues related to both private Christian schools and classical Christian academies.
Panelist Hutz Herzberg was joined by several dozen students participating in a gap-year program through Turning Point Education. Herzberg has been leading the group, which is hosted this academic year at Southwestern Seminary. Students were able to pose questions to the panelists.
Baylor University faculty member Hannah Stolze presented “Wisdom and Key Performance Indicators: Measuring What Matters.”
Registrants at the conference represented 90 institutions and ministry partners.
Michael Graham, program director for The Keller Center for Cultural Apologetics, presented “Artifical Intelligence: Trends and Issues.”
Nick Willis joined colleagues Ryan Westervelt and Ryan Dougherty in presenting a preview of their upcoming book titled “Builder, Fixer, Optimizer: Leadership in Christian Higher Education.”
Malcolm B. Yarnell III, research professor of theology at Southwestern Seminary, presented “Evangelicalism: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” as part of the pre-conference sessions.
