IACE announces plans for second annual Faculty Development Conference

FORT WORTH (February 10) -- The International Alliance for Christian Education today announced plans to host a two-track Faculty Development Conference May 25-27 in Fort Worth.

The announcement came during the second day of the group’s annual conference at the Riley Center on the campus of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, also the scheduled site for IACE’s Faculty Development Conference.

One track will focus on faculty members who have been teaching less than five years, while the other will be designed for those with extensive classroom experience and aspirations for attaining positions such as program director, department chair or dean.

President David S. Dockery said the presentations will target many of the same themes present in the IACE’s inaugural Faculty Development Conference last spring.

“Our days will focus on the relationship between theology and learning, Christian worldview formation, teaching effectiveness, the importance of head and heart, as well as research and publication,” Dockery said.

Dockery added there also will be sessions focused on discipline-specific conversations, innovation, reading programs, and honors programs.

New this year will be a pre-conference event beginning at noon May 24 and continuing through May 25, focused on “The Image of God: What it Means to be Human in a Culture of Death.”

The speaker schedule during the week will include John Kilner, professor emeritus of Bioethics and Contemporary Culture at Trinity International University; Scott Rae, dean of Faculty and Professor of Christian Ethics at Talbot School of Theology, Biola University; Jennifer Marshall Patterson, director of the Institute of Theology and Public Life at Reformed Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C.; Ben Mitchell, Graves Chair of Moral Philosophy at Union University; John Stonestreet, president of the Colson Center for Christian Worldview; and Tommy Kidd, research professor of Church History at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

The pre-conference will be co-hosted by Stand for Life and the Land Center.

Separate registrations will be necessary for the pre-conference and the Faculty Development Conference, even for those attending both events.

Faculty Development Conference registration cost will be $350/person, which includes meals. Pre-conference registration will cost $150/person. Full scholarships are available for pre-conference participants upon request.

Separate reservations must be made for accommodations, which will be available at the Riley Center and at the nearby Hampton Inn and Suites.

Online registration is available, as is a secure online portal for paying fees.
