Position Overview
Biola University, a private Christian institution in Southern California, seeks applications for a part-time Communication Lab Supervisor to provide academic support and technical assistance to students utilizing the Colossians 4:6 Communication Lab. This position involves supervising lab operations, mentoring student tutors, and ensuring a productive learning environment that aligns with the university's Christian mission and values.
Division and University Overview:
The Division of Communication is housed in the School of Fine Arts and Communication. The Division of Communication consists of a BA in Communication with concentrations in Communication Studies, Digital Journalism and Media, and Public Relations and Strategic Communication. The Division and the program are poised for growth in emerging areas such as Health Communication and Organizational Communication, and Innovative Media. Within the Division, students learn from a core of major classes as well as highly specialized courses in their areas of concentration.

Hiring Range: $20.39 - 21.95 per hour
Competitive hourly wage commensurate with experience.

Job Responsibilities:
Lab Operations & Management
Supervise daily operations of the Communication Lab during assigned hours
Maintain lab equipment, software, and resources in working condition
Ensure lab policies and procedures are followed by students and staff
Monitor lab usage and maintain accurate records of student visits
Coordinate lab schedules and room reservations
Student Support & Tutoring
Provide direct academic support to students in communication-related coursework
Assist students with writing, presentation skills, public speaking, and research skills
Help students navigate communication software and technology
Refer students to appropriate campus resources when needed
Foster an inclusive, supportive learning environment
Staff Supervision & Training
Recruit, train, and supervise student tutors
Conduct regular meetings with student staff to ensure quality service
Develop training materials and resources for lab personnel
Evaluate student employee performance and provide feedback
Administrative Duties
Collaborate with Division of Communication faculty on lab initiatives
Assist in developing lab policies, procedures, and best practices
Prepare reports on lab usage, student outcomes, and program effectiveness
Support special events, workshops, and department activities as needed
Maintain confidentiality of student information and academic records
Job Requirements:
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
Experience working in higher education preferred
Skills & Competencies
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with communication software (presentation software, recording software, cloud document management, etc.)
Experience with learning management systems and educational technology
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Working Conditions
Part-time position: 25 hours per week for 10 months
Flexible scheduling including some evening and eventually weekend hours
Work performed primarily in the Communication Lab environment
Occasional lifting of equipment up to 25 pounds
Extended periods of computer use and standing
