HOURS WORKED: 8:00 – 4:30, Monday-Friday, evenings, weekends, and travel as needed

This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position focused on building music and the arts at Crown College while teaching undergraduate music courses.

Job Responsibilities:
This faculty member reports to the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Education and the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:

Adjunct music instructors

EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:

Works from an office at Crown College. Regular attendance on campus to complete job duties is required. Equipment used includes, but is not limited to, personal computer and related software, printer, calculator, copy machines, and tools related to undergraduate teaching and research.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

Promotion and Recruitment (50-60%)

· Coordinate with full- and part-time faculty as well as with college administration to strengthen, promote, and expand musical and artistic opportunities that lead to increased student enrollment, audience attendance, and community engagement.

· Collaborate with college enrollment and marketing to identify and engage prospective music and visual arts students in order to foster their matriculation into Crown College.

· Develop relationships with area high school fine arts teachers and church musicians that foster growth in student numbers and participation in music and the arts at Crown.

· Communicate with student development staff and leadership to expand current student awareness of and participation in musical and artistic training, performances, and presentations.

· Work with college marketing and faculty members to increase audience awareness of and attendance at musical and artistic events presented by Crown students and faculty.

Academics (40-50%)

· Teach courses in music according to education as well as student need. This could include private lessons, music ensembles, or classes in music or fine arts.

· Coordinate with music adjunct instructors and the dean to schedule and evaluate music classes, ensemble rehearsal times, and private lessons.

· Assist in advising students pursuing the minor in music.

· Oversee the music budget.

· Assist as needed in recruiting adjunct music instructors.

· Consult in curriculum development, including the potential creation of a bachelor’s degree in music.

· Stay abreast of scholarly developments in music, music education, and relevant fields as well as current teaching methodologies, curriculum development, and assessment.

· Contribute to the field of music and the arts as well as the profession of college-level teaching.

General

· Support the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of Crown College.

· Engage in general faculty responsibilities that include:

o Participation in departmental and faculty meetings,

o Care of students,

o Crown College committee assignments, and

o At least 10 hours of scheduled office hours per week to be available to students.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Agreement and personal alignment with the Crown College Statement of Faith and Community Covenant

· Demonstrated experience and expertise teaching music courses, private lessons, and/or music ensembles at the college level

· Achievement as a performer, conductor, composer, and/or music educator

· Genuine desire to build and promote a developing music and fine arts program within a Christian undergraduate context

· Success as a recruiter

· Strong interpersonal skills and positive energy regarding professional education

· Established ability to work effectively as a team member

· Demonstrated excellence in spoken, written and electronic communication skills

· Ability to integrate collegiate teaching and the Christian faith

· Experience evaluating students’ work and reporting results promptly

Stamina to stand for extended periods of time in a classroom environment
Hand and arm (or equivalent) dexterity adequate to allow for safe use of equipment and extensive use of a keyboard for data entry
Vocal strength to speak clearly in a classroom or to an audience for extended periods of time
Ability to travel individually or with a group of students
Vision adequate for frequent viewing of computer screens and safe use and supervision of equipment and materials
Body strength to frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

· Master’s degree in music, music education, or a similar field

· Demonstrated teaching effectiveness

· Experience as a performer and/or conductor

· Experience using computer technology in the teaching/learning process

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to the above minimum qualifications):

· DMA/PhD in music, music education, or a related area

· Knowledge of and experience with artistic expressions beyond the field of music

· 5+ years of full-time teaching experience, especially in Christian higher education

· Experience with college recruitment

· Experience with advising undergraduate students
