Job Summary:
The Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of the Faculty is responsible to develop and implement strategic academic and recruiting initiatives that assist the University to achieve its mission and fulfill its vision. The VPAA is responsible to provide academic leadership for all faculty and all academic programming. In addition, the VPAA has primary responsibility for developing and implementing strategies that facilitate worldview formation for faculty, staff, and students. The VPAA shares responsibility with other executive-level administrators to build and cultivate university relations with ABSC/SBC churches and denominational entities.
The VPAA is responsible to lead the university in the development, implementation, and assessment of worldview initiatives throughout the university with primary focus upon academics and vocation. Under the supervision and in coordination with the President, the VPAA has the responsibility to ensure that academic programs and degrees, student learning initiatives, accreditation requirements, and faculty development opportunities appropriately advance the academic goals, objectives, and mission of the university. The VPAA will lead the faculty to create degree programs, courses, and instructional methods that serve the academic goals and programs of the university as well as embody and express a Christian worldview.
Job Responsibilities:
• Serve as the chief academic officer and academic dean for the faculty.
• Provide leadership, oversight, and assessment for all members of the faculty.
• Provide leadership, oversight, and assessment for all academic programs and courses.
• Provide leadership in the development and implementation of new academic programs.
• Provide strategic planning and initiative implementation for all worldview formation initiatives, with special attention to worldview formation in all academic areas (courses and course-related materials, degree programs, pedagogy, etc.).
• Provide strategic planning and initiative implementation for the integration of faith, learning, and vocation initiatives.
• Develop, implement, and coordinate professional development events and opportunities that equip WBU faculty and staff in the formation of a Christian worldview and vocation expressed in all academic classes, courses, and degree programs.
• Provide leadership in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives that:
promotes the university, recruit students, and cultivates donors
build goodwill/public relations with university constituencies
facilitate student recruitment
• Develop, assess, and supervise all budgets associated with this position.
• Provide leadership and oversight for all accreditation processes and guidelines.
• Teach courses and perform faculty-related duties.
• Attainment of University enrollment goals and objectives as related to areas of responsibility.
• All other duties as assigned by the President.
Job Requirements:
Required: Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate degrees
Experience
• Required: Must have seven-years teaching experience with full-time faculty appointment and academic leadership
• Preferred: Demonstrate familiarity working in a context of a Christian university; special expertise in biblical and theological studies that facilitate worldview formation.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies:
• Knowledge of Christian university culture and a commitment to a holistic model of Christian education (Head, Heart, Hand)
• Ability to create and implements innovative instructional programs and initiatives for a Christian work-education model
• Knowledge of the field of Christian worldview and vocation
• Ability to articulate and integrate a biblical worldview in all learning and academic initiatives
• Strong and innovative leadership skills, public relations, and strong organizational skills
• Ability to work effectively with students, parents, faculty, staff, and university constituencies
• Ability to develop and implement strategic planning initiatives
• Ability to develop and administrate complex budgets
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Collaborative work habits and ability to establish collegial relationships; able to participate actively in a team environment
• Strong interpersonal relationship and communication skills
• Organizational efficiency and attention to detail; able to work quickly with high degree of accuracy; able to multi-task
