Job Summary:
The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Historical Theology with at least 5 years of experience in pastoral ministry or missions service, as well as a desire and ability to administrate the Academic Department. The successful candidate will possess a proven record of and passion for teaching and mentoring seminary students to prepare them for pastoral ministry.
The teaching load is 12 credits/academic year, and faculty are expected to advise students and serve on seminary committees as well as remain professionally active in their field.
Additionally, as the Academic Dean, this position will be responsible for overseeing the seminary’s Academic Department. This includes, in part, leading the Faculty Council, maintaining academic standards in line with ATS accredited schools, recruiting and managing adjunct professors, planning course schedules, reviewing syllabi, overseeing academic programs, and working with the registrar to write the annual academic calendar.
Compensation will be commensurate with ATS salaries for schools of this size and the candidate’s faculty rank. Faculty rank will be determined by the candidate’s academic experience and publications.
Job Responsibilities:
• Teaching and Mentoring:
o Teach a minimum of 12 credits per academic year.
o Advise and mentor students, guiding them in both academic and spiritual growth.
• Academic Department Leadership:
o Lead Faculty Council to plan, execute and evaluate curriculum
o Evaluate processes, professors, student learning, curriculum consistency
o Recruit and support adjunct professors
o Approve syllabi
o Evaluate new student applications with admissions team
o Supervise Librarian & Registrar
o Oversee updates and conformity to the Student Handbook
o Work with Student Services to publish annual Academic and Administrative calendars
o Provide academic reports to the President
o Lead in accreditation matters that pertain to academics
o Administer Bios Grant program
o Oversee student integrity issues/academic probation (in concert with Registrar)
o Oversee MATS capstone projects
o Lead in planning Convocation & Graduation services
o Participate in weekly staff meetings
• Professional Development and Scholarly Contribution:
o Attend at least one professional society meeting every year to stay engaged with developments in the field.
o Present research at a professional society meeting at least every other year to contribute to the academic community.
o Produce peer-reviewed and popular writings as time and opportunity allow, contributing to scholarly and public discourse.
• Community Engagement:
o Speak at local churches and events around Indianapolis, representing ITS and fostering relationships with the broader community.
o Participate in other ITS recruitment efforts, such as providing writings and podcast appearances.

• Theological Alignment:
o Subscribe annually in writing to one of the historic confessions with which ITS aligns:
The Westminster Confession of Faith
The Second London Baptist Confession
The Belgic Confession
The 39 Articles of Religion
o Affirm annually in writing the ITS Statement of Common Beliefs.
o Any exceptions to the affirmed confession and/or Statement of Common Beliefs must be identified and explained. Such exceptions will be reviewed by the Board.
• Church Involvement:
o Be an active member of a local church that either:
1. Subscribes to one of the historic confessions with which ITS aligns, or
2. Certifies in writing that it does not purposefully oppose the ITS Statement of Common Beliefs.
• Christian Character:
o Demonstrate a consistent life of Christian commitment, piety, discipleship, and spiritual growth.
o Exhibit the qualities of an elder as described in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
• Academic and Professional Qualifications:
o Hold an earned Ph.D. or equivalent in Historical Theology (ABD may be considered if completion is likely within one year) from an accredited institution.
o Have a proven record of fruitful pastoral ministry or missions work (at least 5 years preferred).
o Possess strong teaching skills that align with ITS’s core commitments to doctrine, life, and ministry.
o Possess administrative skills and appropriate administrative experience.
o Demonstrate strong writing and speaking abilities.
o Show organizational and punctuality skills.
o Have experience in academic or organizational leadership.
