Job Summary:
The School of Performing Arts at Missouri Baptist University is accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Vocal Studies.
This is a full time, benefits eligible, 9 month appointment. The successful applicant will teach a full studio of vocal majors (performance, music education, worship leadership, musical theatre, BA, and electives) and teach vocal related courses such as Vocal Literature, Vocal Pedagogy, Vocal Diction, Opera Workshop, and other courses as assigned. As Director of Vocal Studies, the role will include coordination of adjunct voice faculty, juries, sophomore proficiencies, hearings, recitals, and staff accompanists in collaboration with other music faculty and under the supervision of the Associate Dean.
The Music Department at Missouri Baptist University is housed in the School of Performing Arts, a NASM accredited institution, with a growing undergraduate enrollment. While classical training is the foundation of our program, students are encouraged to explore various styles including contemporary genres found in music education, worship, studio, musical theatre, and contemporary performance settings. The faculty member will be encouraged to engage students in performance and competition opportunities on and off campus through local arts organizations and seek to remain current in the study of vocal literature and pedagogy along with the candidate’s own scholarly pursuits.
Job Responsibilities:
The applicant is expected to teach, attend monthly faculty and departmental meetings, hold office hours, participate in university committee(s), and mentor vocal students. We intend to fill the position prior to Fall 2025.
Additional Teaching Responsibilities:
Overload may be available dependent on departmental needs and applicant's qualifications
Job Requirements:
• DMA in Vocal Performance or Pedagogy (Preferred) or MM in Vocal Performance or Pedagogy
• Experience teaching in higher education and/or extensive studio experience
• Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to music performance and scholarship
• Candidates must embrace a student-centered approach and have a passion for serving students
• Candidates must commit to intentionally integrating faith and learning in the vocal studio, classroom, and rehearsal space
