A Helpful New Resource on the Integration of Faith and Learning

The good folks at The Center for Academic Flourishing and Faithfulness (CAFF) produce a number of helpful resources, most notably their College Guide. However, CAFF also publishes research reports related to the various facets of Christian higher education. The most recent entry in the CAFF Guide Series is titled “Academic Faith Integration in Christian Higher Education.”

The guide’s author, Paul Kaak, will be familiar to many in the IACE orbit. Kaak is a longtime Christian education who leads TheoMetrics, a consulting firm that focuses on promoting the integration of faith and learning in Christian academic institutions. He contributed an excellent article to the Fall 2026 issue of Integration titled “Designing School-Based Faculty Development Programs for Academic Faith Integration.”

In the new CAFF Guide, Kaak makes a case for the centrality of faith-learning integration to the mission of Christian higher education. He engages with the relevant scholarship on the topic, and offers a fine balance between theory and practice. Academic administrators and especially classroom instructors will find his five principles to be helpful in thinking through how to implement academic faith integration into teaching and scholarship. Others will appreciate the Kaak’s arguments about how academic faith integration distinguishes Christian colleges and universities in a crowded market, as well as advice about how to focus on the faith-learning integration in the faculty development process. (The latter considerations echo the aforementioned Integration article.)

I would highly recommend that every president, academic administrator, and faculty member read Kaak’s excellent guide. You will find many insights that will help you and your institution be more faithful and effective in the task of academic faith integration, for the glory of God and the good of our students.
